I love this picture, so posting it properly – my little niece decided she wanted to take a nap right on my chest. This was our first visit, so she was about 2 weeks old at this point :)

I think that would put her at abut 7 pounds – felt light as a feather……

I had often wondered how the Ood came to be, something related to Hollywood Video perhaps?

I was going through some old comments on Flickr when I came across this picture (again). I did ask Son (left) if she could remember what she had said, but unfortunately the answer is as lost to her as it is to me (center) and Jenny (right). Shame…….

Anyone want to make up a conversation that would generate such a reaction?

Too tired to do a write up on it, but the pics are up at least – all the pics are to be found as a set in the gallery or in the usual spot on Flickr

I took a little walk on Saturday down toward Arlington cemetery – I hadn’t intended to go that way, it just kind of happened that way. Hence I did not have my camera with me, which was a pity because with the onset of Autumn there were some very nice views. My phone had to act as a stand in but is not quite up to the task – this is one of the shots I took, you can find the rest in the Flickr set.

Tomoko (as Maria Sharapova), Matt (as Andy Roddick), Kramer (as Winnie the Pooh), Dave (as Tom Hanks & Wilson from Castaway), Jenny (as a Witch) and I (as a sober Irishman) all attended the 7th Annual “Nightmare on M Street” pub crawl. We started in Rumors at around 6.30 (TK and Jenny Pictured above) and went to Mad Hatter, Ozio and MCCXXIII and were intending to go to Lucky Bar but by then the lines were insane. It also meant that only one vertex of the “Herpes Triangle” was left unvisited – The Sign of the Whale – but they were sadly not taking part in the event. So, we grabbed some grub in Fuddruckers after MCCXXIII and headed home. For reasons that shall remain undisclosed I was sober the whole night, so I contented myself with taking pictures – it is a poor substitute for alcohol but fun was had nonetheless.

I think the Optimus Prime costume below was my favorite of the night, though all the cow girls, school girls and various scantily clad women were appreciated too :) You can find the full set here or on Flickr.

Perhaps this desk could do with a little tidying…..

A quick inventory of what is piled on there:

  • Darth Tater (of course)
  • An old Athlon XP 2500+ overclocked to 3200+
  • A Sun Sparcstation 20
  • Several Dual Slot 1 Motherboards
  • Some Slot 1 CPU’s
  • 2 Floppy Drives
  • Several Hard Disks
  • A Power Strip
  • An SGI Irix Install Set
  • A notebook
  • Random CD’s & Cables
  • A stack of RAM
  • Some poker chips

The bad part is that this is what most people see when they walk by my door – so it’s definitely going on the to-do list…..

Update (10/19/06): Joe informs me (see comments) that this “phone sex”/”menage-a-mobile phone” pic is now the most popular picture he’s ever put on Flickr (2300+ last time I looked) – by contrast the two phone version below has a paltry 23 views. There are some strange and twisted people out there :)

From Four Courts on Saturday night (by Joe because my pictures were useless in low light), I thought I’d share the “highlight” of the evening. There was much phone related mullarkey and I think this was when we realized things had gone too far……

Of course there was the more conventional position first, which led to the above:

I guess I just had to get in on the action – my phone is on bottom which Joe suggests is my reason for finding this disturbing – I beg to differ. The full set can be found here, while my only viewable pic (sadly) is this one:

Turns out that this was far easier than I thought – I had looked at some tools that required custom fields and that meant messing with things on a level I was not prepared to commit to. Then I found Simple Tags – a plugin for WordPress that takes all the pain out of the process. I recommend it for all WordPress users.

This dark and slightly blurry pic stems from the fact that camera phones are useless in low light. The gig was excellent and I like Iota as a venue – nice and small – perfect for some of the more mellow tunes that were performed. Plus it’s 2 blocks from my house – that may be influencing my opinion somewhat.
Probably best known for his work in The Frames, he is now touring the US with his new band The Swell Season – last night was their first gig. That last link will take you to their MySpace page where you can see the rest of the schedule.

I highly recommend you check Glen out if you get a chance – I’ve never been a Frames fan, but after this I will be checking them out as well as Glen’s new stuff.

Damien Dempsey (who is currently touring here as well) was also in attendance having apparently put it up to Glen to do this solo stuff in the first place. He gave us one song after a little prodding and it was a nice change up. He has a lot to live up to – in Glen’s estimation he apparently ranks with Luke Kelly and Michael Collins. I think he has a bit of a way to go before he gets into that company myself :) In fact he agreed when I pointed it out – I believe his exact response was “Fuckin’ right I do” [have a lot to live up to].
Bottom line – if you can, theck him out…
