With the switch to WordPress I realized that I would be able to import my old KillingMachines.org blog from the archive site that they kindly provided. I had tried to do it in the past, but the format (Movable Type) was no good for importing to blogger. Nice to get the old entries back

Big Upheaval

Well, it’s been a while and I have been busy. The main development is that I am now living in the US! Hence the lack of updates – getting my life sorted out seemed more important than blogging….

I think it’ll be good to keep a record of the move and my initial days, so why not here?

As usual, I have no time to write anything at the moment, but coming soon: Adam’s US adventures

Been a while

Haven’t posted in a while but it has been busy. just got back from a surprise weekend in Kilkenny with Jen (surprise for her, not me followed by a business trip to London. In the middle of that I had that 24 hour bug that was going around so it feels more like 2 weeks than 5 days has passed.

Thanks to Jim for recommending Rinuccini’s – it was a lovely restaurant and Kilkenny was a very nice town in general. Once Jen got over the surprise she enjoyed herself too

On the geeky side – I have now relocated the DC board in my cube and managed to insert a Radeon 9000 Pro. It boots and I can ssh into it, but unfortunately whenever I attach the VGA to DVI adapter it shuts down – of course that may be because I haven’t attached a bracket to the end of the VGA card yet and it’s shorting out as a result. W’ll see when I hack together a new bracket.

As a bonus I should be getting an iMac gratis thanks to some of the IT work I do on the side – Nice! Combine that with the half price X-Box I got from a clearance sale and I have toys to keep me busy into the new year at least……

Mmmmmm…….

Just an update on the post on Friday (2 before this). I’d said we were going to Salamanca for food -it was great! I definitely recommend it. We ordered 5 tapas dishes and they were gorgeous – of course anywhere that does good chorizo is always going to get a good write up from me

Tom was very pissed by the time we got to him – he was in Q bar, not McTurcaills as advertised – and he was doing his best to chatup two twin sisters Now that’s how to leave a job………

Finally – saw Cabin Fever today, not so much a horror film as a gore/gross fest with some jumpy moments. UGC in dublin has been completely refurbished – about time – though the effect was ruined when a little girl who’d had a little too much popcorn decided to do the techicoloured yodel on the new carper – ick!

I think Freddy Vs Jason will be up next – something to fill the gap until Matrix Reolutions in November.

Sin � for now, need some sleep for work tomorrow.

iTunes Rocks

Well, I downloaded and installed the Windoze version of iTunes. Damn, now I can’t feel all superior to windows only users about being able to use it on the Cube. It’s just the best there is out there, period……

Roll on the international iTunes store, pisses me off no end that it is US only.

AAAAH!

This week has dragged in – thank God it’s nearly over…..less than an hour to go in fact. I can see it now, Sunday morning lie-in, getting up just in time to catch the kick off for Ireland’s next RWC match with Namibia, nice fry for brekkie at half time, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..

Back to the present though – off for dinner tonight in Salamanca which is supposed to be a pretty nice Tapas bar then out for a farewell party. This is my third in as many weeks, but this one is special. No offense to Jenny and Sarah but I’ve known Tom (henceforth known as the deserter) since I was 12 or so. He was in my class in school and then as a complete surprise came to work for AOL 6 months before I did. Tom Morton I bid you farewell and good luck, it’ll be weird not seeing you around the place…..

Tom just about made it past the 5 year mark here, my own 5 years is up on the 4th of January. An omen? hmmmmm

Cube

Well, things are coming together nicely – a friend of mine is going to the US and has agreed to bring the cable home with her

That’ll save on the shipping and probably get it here a bit sooner too.

Now all I have to do is remain convinced that I do not need an Athlon 64 based system and everything will be OK

Another Geeky Update

Now that everything has settled down I can get on with the G4 cube upgrade I had planned. A friend of mine in the US has ordered me a pre-made cable that will allow me to relocate the DC/DC board without having to resort to making my own. That should save me a lot of grief and possibly save my cube in the process given my cable making abilities

Hopefully I’ll have it done for the Panther release on the 24th so my cube can render all the new shiny things in 10.3 properly

Bloody knackered

After my update mania last week things have slowed down again

I re-read the post about DC and Jen was right – it is a bit over the top – but at the time I was pissed off. The trip was fun in the end – the way those kind of trips usually are but, like most travelling they are always better in retrospect and with a bit of perspective and distance.

Not much going on this week. I think I’m still not over my jet lag – I was fine last week but this week I am permanently tired……oh well.

It’s my Mam’s 50th birthday party on Saturday (birthday was on the 26th) – we’ve taken over an entire restaurant for the night which should be fun

On the geeky side, the graphics upgrade to the G4 Cube is still on hold until I can source some suitable wire and single pin connectors, though the Gentoo box has made some prgoress – I’ve compiled and installed most of the major packages. The only remaining problem is that the NVidia graphics driver won’t work and the built in nv driver is unstable. I’m sure it’s something I can fix, it will just take a little while.

I’ve gone update mad today. Julia’s page is now updated too with some new pictures. It’s been far too long since I updated it and she’s growing pretty fast. Also, hopefully we’ll have some TV footage to add to the site soon, since she got her first job doing an Ad for Calpol!
